December is officially here – the final and most festive month of the year. It’s a season of generosity, giving, love, and compassion, as we move through the darkest weeks of the year, followed by the longest night on the winter solstice. Much of this season is about bringing light to the darkness through literal lights, festive music and celebrations, and giving of our time, energy, and resources to one another.

The astrology this month aligns with this energy of generosity, light, and love, but also offers us some deep opportunities for reflection on ourselves and on society.

First up, we have the new moon solar eclipse in Sagittarius on December 4. This is the final eclipse in the Gemini/Sagittarius eclipse cycles we’ve been experiencing since last May. Eclipses can physically only happen when the new or full moon occurs within 13° of the north or south nodes, which are karmic destiny points in astrology. This is why eclipses are considered portals for collective change and transformation.

The nodes have been in Gemini and Sagittarius for the past year and a half so the eclipses during this period have been all about the ways we communicate, our relationships with friends, siblings, students, teachers, and social groups, education, what we learn and why, and how we each feel called to share our own unique wisdom with the world. This final eclipse in Sagittarius is asking us to reflect back on the past year and a half and on what we’ve learned around these themes.

In terms of your business, this might have a lot to do with your marketing and messaging, as well as how you’re showing up in the world as a teacher, healer, and wise one. What are you sharing and why? As you complete these reflections on or around the new moon, you might then turn your attention to the future. How will you implement what you’ve learned? The full moon in Gemini on December 18, which will officially be out of the eclipse season portal, will give us an opportunity to start implementing some of the wisdom we’ve integrated during this period.

One of the most significant transits in December and the start of 2022 is Venus retrograde in Capricorn, which begins on December 19. Venus retrogrades are significant because they only happen once every year and a half; the rarer a transit or retrograde is, the more impactful it tends to be. Venus retrograde is an opportunity to reflect on and reevaluate our relationships, love languages, values, style, and money.

Don’t worry, this isn’t just a “breakup transit” – like all transits, Venus retrograde is really here to support us in discovering what connections, sources of income, and aesthetics are no longer serving us. With Venus retrograde specifically in Capricorn, we might feel this especially in the realm of work and career, (or business), but be sure to check what house you have Capricorn in to discover how it will impact you personally. It might feel like a bit of a slow start to the year in terms of sales or connections but when Venus turns direct at the end of January, we will have so much more clarity around what we need and who can support us.

Lastly, right at the very end of the year, Jupiter will be moving into Pisces on December 28. Jupiter is the planet of luck, expansion, spirituality, and abundance and, in traditional astrology, it’s also the ruler of Pisces so this is bound to be an expansive, generous, and very loving and compassionate transit. We had a preview of this transit over the summer, when Jupiter was briefly in Pisces before retrograding back into Aquarius, and Jupiter will now be here for the next several months. This indicates that connecting with your intuition will be absolutely essential in order to expand and receive the abundance that you desire. It’s time for us to transcend and step into loving compassion and spiritual fulfillment in all things.
