Happy new year, biz witches! As we welcome in 2022, let’s look to the stars to support us in our lives and businesses.

First up, right away on January 2, we have the new moon in Capricorn. This is an excellent time to set those new year intentions and create resolutions that are going to support your goals in sustainable ways throughout the year ahead. Capricorn is the sign associated with work and career, but it’s not all business either. Capricorn is also a wonderful energy for setting sustainable goals for your self-care, so you can consistently nurture and support yourself. This earthy, grounded winter energy is here to help you create a strong foundation of support to build your dreams on.

We’re also going to be experiencing a collective, karmic shift this month, as on January 18, the north node moves into Taurus and the south node moves into Scorpio, (they are always exactly opposite one another.) The nodes are not planets, but rather points on the moon’s orbit that have to do with eclipses – and destiny. They are almost always retrograde and move backwards through the signs.

For the past year and a half, they’ve been in Gemini and Sagittarius, and we’ve had a collective focus on communication technology, social media, learning and education, and releasing old, outmoded ways of sharing spiritual wisdom. We’ve seen an increase in conversation around anti-racism and equity in the social and political spheres, as well as within our own spiritual community. There’s been an increase in the expectation of spiritual leaders to lead with transparency and to make reparations and apologies when they’ve been wrong, as we all are sometimes.

As the nodes shift now into Taurus and Scorpio, our collective focus will be turning more to money, pleasure, body positivity/neutrality, and to magick and shadow work. We’ll be releasing fear and shame around making and desiring more money and more pleasure in our lives. We’ll be calling out the harmful conversations in our society around body image and self-love and calling in an opportunity to do better in our representations of each other. You will feel this transit most if you have your own nodes, your sun or moon, or your ascendant or midheaven in Taurus or Scorpio, but it will impact everyone to some degree.

We also have some very impactful retrogrades happening this month. Venus has been retrograde in Capricorn since December 19 and will remain there through January 29, (check out last month’s forecast for more details). Mercury will station retrograde in Aquarius on January 14, then move back into Capricorn on January 25.

Mercury Rx is one of the most well-known aspects of astrology because everybody tends to feel it. All of the planets retrograde at some point, but Mercury is the most frequent, happening three times a year for three weeks at a time. Mercury rules communication, technology, and transportation, so when it turns retrograde, all of these areas are impacted. Miscommunications, technology breakdowns, and travel delays are all common during Mercury retrograde, as well as the reappearance of old habits, ideas, relationships, and unresolved issues.

This particular Mercury Rx is likely to impact tech support even more than usual for the first 10 days, as Aquarius rules innovation and tech. Once it retrogrades back into Capricorn, we’ll be focusing more on reevaluating the structures and systems in our lives and how they need to support us more efficiently.

But here’s the thing: Mercury Rx is not just here to mess with your life. In fact, it’s here to help and serve you. Mercury Rx is an opportunity to reflect, reevaluate, and reconfigure anything in your life that isn’t working. This time around, we’re especially reevaluating how we communicate in the context of our most intimate connections.

Specifically, this Mercury Rx in Aquarius and Capricorn is activating a particular area of your own astrological chart depending on your rising or ascendant sign, which can help you get even more nuanced insight on what area and in which relationships this will show up in your life:

  • Aries Rising: Reevaluate the technological ways you interact with your community and the support systems you rely on in your work and career.
  • Taurus Rising: Reevaluate the technology you use for business and the support systems you rely on in your educational journey.
  • Gemini Rising: Reevaluate the technology you use for learning and teaching purposes and the support systems you rely on for processing shadows in a safe and grounded way.
  • Cancer Rising: Reevaluate the technology you use in your spiritual practice, (time to clear out the apps), and the support systems you rely on in your closest relationships.
  • Leo Rising: Reevaluate the technology and social media you use to connect with your loved ones and the support systems you rely on in your daily rituals and wellness practices.
  • Virgo Rising: Reevaluate the technology you use to support your health and wellness and the support systems you rely on to help you express your creativity.
  • Libra Rising: Reevaluate the technology you use to express yourself most authentically and the support systems you rely on for rest and self-care.
  • Scorpio Rising: Reevaluate the technology you use in your home and the support systems you rely on for communicating your needs – and being understood.
  • Sagittarius Rising: Reevaluate the technology you use to communicate effectively and the support systems you rely on for comfort and pleasure.
  • Capricorn Rising: Reevaluate the technology you use to keep track of your finances and the support systems you rely on from within – how you support yourself.
  • Aquarius Rising: Reevaluate the technology you use in all areas of your life and the support systems you rely on to safely connect with and receive guidance from your intuition.
  • Pisces Rising: Reevaluate the technology you allow into your energetic field and the support systems you rely on within your community.
